Between Floor and Chair explores the cultural transformation of sitting, from grounded, collective floor-based traditions to the elevated conditions shaped by modernity. As the chair became a symbol of progress and efficiency, it not only changed the body's position but also altered relationships to time, proximity, and gathering. Rather than advocating a return to floor sitting, the project proposes a middle ground. Through a lowered seating typology, it brings the body closer to the ground while remaining accessible to contemporary lifestyles. The reduced height encourages alternative postures, shared eye levels, and a greater awareness of gravity and presence. Drawing from the spatial logic of traditional Mediterranean seating and translating it through contemporary materials and craftsmanship, the project investigates how design can reconnect us with embodied ways of sitting and foster stronger connections to memory, place, and one another.
